We moved to Winnetka in late August and live very near Mirani's. After 4 or 5 meals, we are sold on the place...and worried. We have not had a bad meal there -- from the yummy mussels in broth...

Overpriced menu items in which you could probably get a better-tasting options elsewhere, this place is a full-on bust. Stick with Le Bouchon or better yet, go to France. Not worth the hike up to...

Wow, I can't believe the low reviews for this place!! I realize that it's not the best meal I've ever eaten, and maybe it doesn't stand up to some of the best brasseries in Chicago, but it's good...

Brent J. hits the nail on the head: judged on its own terms, Mirani's succeeds admirably, but if it were downtown next door to, say, Brasserie Jo, it would probably wither. That said, I enjoyed my...

It saddens me a bit to see some of the negative reviews on this site. Clearly someone had a bad experience, which can happen at any establishment, and they have made it their business to trash a great establishment. In my many years of going to Mirani's, I have never had bad service from Ms. Mirani. She is actually a very sweet woman, and I have come to know her very well. As far as my review, this is a restaurant, so I think it is important to actually mention the quality of the food! As someone who travels quite frequently, I will say that the food is very authentic. It is a bistro, after all, and is very reminiscent of small bistros all over Paris. Yes, the service is not Mirani's best asset, but the quality of food surpasses any qualms I would have with the wait staff. If you want to be doted on every second of your meal, this may not be the place for you, but remember that this is a french bistro-style restaurant, not a 10-course tasting restaurant. But if you do want a delicious, hearty French meal, this is a gem, in my opinion. Their success is proven by the repeat customer clientelle that continues to come back day after day, myself included.

Last friday i was at Mirani's for the first time.I had heard they have live music and wanted to check it out. We sat at the bar , the ensemble is great. For dinner we had mussels for appetizer. I ordered halibut and my friend had steak . We both loved it and will go back . Ioana

I go to Mirani's at least once a week since they opened. The staff is very friendly . We probably had every item on their menu. My favorite is the whitefish. We have always had a nice experience and will always be loyal customers.

If I were to rate this restaurant on the food only, it would be a good one. However, the dinning experience makes the meal. The three faux pas that stand out include: Our "meal auction" consisting of wait staff asking who ordered which dish AND each diner received their meals at different times, many items were unavailable from the menu including ALL dessert items and server never returned to the table other than to take an order then deliver it... I would not go back.

I really wondered if we had personally offended Madeleine Mirani after our dreadful experience Saturday night. She was rude. I see a pattern here with some of the other comments and realize now that we just came to the wrong restaurant. Clearly a dilettante, Madame Mirani has sought to bring the full, contemptuous Parisian experience to her little corner of Winnetka. Well, Brava. Train your staff, lose the attitude and remember that this is a service business you're running...

We have now eaten at this restaurant 3 times because it so close to home and we can walk there. The first meal was mediocre, the second was ok with terrible service, but last night topped it. My wife's steak was meant to come with a lightly smoked chili sauce - it came with a brown gloop of a gravy! We told our server we were not happy with this - she scurried to the kitchen , came back and said - it is what it is do you want it or not??? My wife chose not! Once we had paid our bill and the place was a little quieter we approached the owner, his wife and the chef who were having a lovely time front of house, patting each other on the back etc and explained our concerns regarding the meal. We were told the same as our server said - it is what it is - and that we basically did not have any idea what we were talking about! The owner turned his back on us and walked away! The chef then decided to wade in and accused us of not knowing what a chili flavor was, took exception to us describing his sauce as appearing like a brown gravy and stomped off to the kitchen to fetch a chili and show us what it was! At that stage we felt it best to leave lest he returned with a large kitchen implement instead. So - in short, we won't be heading back there - ever.

I have gone to Mirani's 8-10 times since it opened, and the service and food quality has gone down hill each visit. Last time I was there, our group arrived on time for our 8pm reservation. After being told they couldn't seat us (even though the restaurant was half empty) we cooled our heels in the cramped bar for 45 minutes. After talking with the rude Hostess( who is the owners wife) we were told grudgingly that they could seat us, but not to expect to place our order for 45 minutes. The other people at the bar were going through the same situation, so we finally left to go to Jackie's Bistro in Evanston, where the food was wonderful, and we were treated kindly. I will never return to Miranis. I would be surprised to see them in business 6 months from now. Bad front of house, and the food has gone down hill.
