Pretty good???? Oh, really?

Funny, after reading the review entitled "Pretty good, really" - you might think Alley Cat is the place to shop for pets. When I asked to view the purchase records of a dog I was interested in - they couldn't provide any. They clerk said "I think it came from Nevada - most of our animals come from there". So how does this reconcile with a reviewer that says "they purchase the majority of their animals locally?" Well, it doesn't. Someone is lying and/or the "Pretty good, really" review was written by the owner of Alley Cat. The fact remains - there are two different stories being vested here about the place - to be safe - stay away. Shop somewhere else.

Pretty good, really.

I've seen their Animal Control License, and they have a 100% compliance rating...so, they must be doing SOMETHING right! I know they purchase the majority of their animals LOCALLY-I know, since I've sold them a few myself. And, ALL their puppies and kittens are from local people...nothing flown in from out of state. Also, their actual animal prices are about a THIRD to HALF what the big stores sell for. They can even sell all their birds right now...the big guys can't because of ANOTHER chlamydia outbreak-just check the papers. They have some newer people who appear to still be learning, but geez...'ya gotta start start somewhere, and it's best to be proactive and ASK QUESTIONS! I've always found that if the person you ask doesn't know the answer, they will at least try to find out for you! Their dogs, cats, and fish are the only things that come with a guarantee, but you have to SIGN it...so hopefully you actually read it after they explain it too you! Anytime you buy an animal-anywhere- it's definitely "buyer beware", But I have actually seen the people there tell someone to choose another animal rather than the one they want-simply because it's acting questionably, and they don't guarantee them. I think that's pretty honest, really. You can't please everyone ALL of the time, I guess, but they will continue to get my business. I've been a customer for over 20 years, and worked there for many of those, so I know this review is factual.

Don't buy a rabbit at Alley Cat

I purchased a baby rabbit (about 6-weeks old) from Alley Cat just after Christmas 2007. A few days after bringing the rabbit home, he began sniffling and sneezing, and had discharge coming from his eyes and nose. A trip to the vet confirmed he had Pastuerlla, an often fatal infection proprietary to rabbits. After three weeks of antibiotics, the rabbit was worse off. The infection targeted his left eye and completely ruined any chance for recovery. We had to put our dear baby rabbit to sleep yesterday evening. We are so heartbroken, but there was nothing more we could do for our little guy. We buried him in our backyard and planted a tree over him in his memory. Long story short - DON'T purchase small animals from Alley Cat. In fact, I would recommend against purchasing any pet from them unless you are ready for heartbreak.
