I went to Dr. Gardner about 6 months ago, and it was one of the most traumatic experiences that I have ever encountered with a OBGYN. Not only was she completely rude and condescending, I experienced physical pain during the visit. During the consultation part, Dr Gardner asked about my diet. I advised her that I was seeing another physician for diet control. She started talking badly about him, saying that he wasn't a "real doctor" and that started the inquisition... she started asking me what I ate for breakfast as she drummed her fingernails on the counter. I became a little nervous, and I couldn't even recall what I had eaten! It seemed like every answer I gave her made her more and more angry. I thought about leaving but I really needed a prescrition for pills filled. I changed into a gown and she proceeded to examine me for a pap smear. She was so physically forceful with me that I started to cry. She said something to the effect of sometimes it's painful. She wouldn't give me a prescription because she said my blood pressure was too high. I bled for a week from that exam, and I will NEVER EVER let her touch me again. I think this woman has serious issues and I was seriously considering lodging an offical complaint against her. She's got issues. Beware.

I got blood tests for prenatal done at her office. My employer switched insurance carriers so even though it was my first time seeing her, I was changing doctors, so I told her I just needed the test results, cuz I was going to a new doctor. She did pap smears and anal swab anyways(I was 22 weeks; it's normally done around 36-38 weeks) and took more blood. (That gave me the impression that she just wanted money for the procedures.) She refused to give me the test results, saying she only gives it to the new doctor. (That is a violation of the HIPAA Privacy Act.) The next week when the follow-up blood test results were in, I asked for a copy. The nurse, Christine, said fine. When I went in to pick them up I asked the receptionist for the first blood test results. AS SHE WAS GETTING THEM, Christine (a.k.a. Dr. Gardner's footstool) came in and stopped her, saying the test results would only be sent to the new doctor, not given to me. I said, "Don't I have a right to my own test results?" She said, "You can get them when you go to your new doctor." People, this is a major violation of patients rights. I am filing a complaint with the Office for Civil Rights. If a doctor treats a patient like a child, as happened in this case, my vote is NO GOOD!!!!

I understand that having an exam is uncomfortable. However, the woman who wrote the last review sounds like an exceptionally sensitive person. I have gone to Dr. Gardner since I was 18. I have also seen other doctors when I lived out of the state and country. Dr. Gardner is the only one who provided me with any information about caring for my self. Other doctors do a quick exam and leave the room. Dr. Gardner should have talked with the woman about the breast exam. But give me a break, this is routine and very important. As an adult woman you need to be able to do this. If that kind of exam causes her to burst into tears, I think she should look into psychological help. I am not saying this to be rude, I am serious. Dr. Gardner can be very opinionated, because she cares about overall health, take it or leave it. BUT of all my physical exams, she was the most gentle.
