Glad We Tried It!

I've lived in the Montclair area for nearly a half-century, but it wasn't till about ten years ago that my family and I tried The Silver Palace Restaurant in Oakland's Montclair district. Before that, I had heard a couple younger people saying that it was disgusting. Fortunately, we tried it and have been fans ever since. The oyster sauce/broccoli beef is great, as is the mu shu pork, fresh pork chow mein, sweet and sour pork or chicken, and the Mongolian beef or lamb DO ask them to go lite on or leave out the hot, red chili peppers in the Mongolian--they'll blow your mouth off). The roast duck is ok. Appetizers a bit disappointing. The Wor Won Ton soup was below par. The Singapore curry chicken or lamb is delish, only again, ask them to go lite on the hot peppers! Other dishes are generally good to excellent, EXCEPT FOR THE SEAFOOD DISHES. STAY AWAY from these!! The seafood is often spoiled. Ugh and peeuww!! Also, I checked the Alameda County (acgov.org) restaurant health inspection results web page, and this eatery has some seriously-disgusting sanitation and food safety violations, as does every other restaurant in Montclair. EERGG! Hey, look on the bright side -- if they remedy these deficiencies, they'll be a real standout!

Our neighborhood place

All kinds of dishes, from old reliables to adventurous! It's the old fashioned chinese restaurant with the fish tank. It delivers too, which is really handy. Note this is in Montclair Village, not in Piedmont.
