Oh Ahmad's... or as my friend Bob calls it, Ackmed's... When I worked downtown I was able to frequent Ahmad's for lunch, which is what I'd highly recommend for someone who just wants to try it out....

Lamb shank dinner... ok taste... below average presentation... a whopping $35 for that plate alone... give me a break!

The food is pretty good. The falafel was a lot more dry than I like. I think that it's baked instead of being deep fried for a brief period of time. The baba ghanoush portion size was a lacking, it was good, but very small amount for the price ($6.75). Those aren't even the problems that I encountered! The following is my fault for not being a better consumer, but I wanted to warn everyone. I decided to have a few Kronenberg 1664s. I like the beer, pretty good stuff. These, of course, were not on the menu. When I got the bill I was shocked to find out that each bottle of Kronenberg was $8 a piece. That is ridiculous because $8 is how much it costs for a six pack! Watch out for the price gouging at Ahmad's!

I declare unreservedly that the best service I have ever had at a restaurant was Ahmad's. Here's the story. I had eaten at Ahmad's once several years ago and wanted to go there again on my way through Omaha on a road trip back to SF from Chicago. I was running late, so I called from on the road to ask "how late are you open?" Ahmad himself answered "How late do you want me to be open? We usually close at around 9 on Sundays." I said I might not get there until 9:30 or so; he said that was fine, just to come on in when I got there. It looked like they were closed, b/c there were chairs on top of tables, etc. But I walked in and said "hello?" Ahmad came out of the kitchen and said "Welcome! I have been waiting for you." He then proceeded to cook the meal for me himself. I had planned to take it to go, but he insisted that I stay, opened a bottle of wine and joined me at the table. The food and conversation were excellent!

My wife was new to Omaha and so Ahmad's was her first taste of Persian food. She didn't like her chicken, and Ahmad himself made her a new meal and it was awesome. It is now her restaurant of choice for special occasions.

I'll make this simple: I live in Detroit for years, the undisputed hotbed of Middle Eastern cuisine in the US. I dined at dozens and dozens of Persian, Middle Eastern and Mediterranean restaurants. Without a doubt, the food at Ahmad's is the best Persian cuisine I've ever tasted, and the wine list provides the perfect complement to meal selections.

Best Persian...I don't know if there are any other Persian restaurants in Omaha. Most of the dishes are very similar, but good: saffron-yellowed basmati rice, meat in a brown sauce, sliced bananas.
