The Jared Coffin House was a Nantucket landmark - noted for its superb service, restaurant & bar. The previous owners / management went out of their way to be accommodating - thus enhancing the Nantucket experience. The hotel was recently sold within the past couple of years - the new management group are not nearly as accommodating. The restaurant " Jareds " was an award winning eatery - very classy. The bar " Tap Room " was a favorite gathering place for locals & tourists alike - a very enjoyable place to meet & relax. The restaurant & bar are now closed - there is no food & beverage service in the hotel. The Continental breakfast is skimpy at best - a far cry from the glory days at the " JC " The rooms & public spaces are in need of an updating & renovation. Overall the hotel no longer has the very pleasant feel & atmosphere as it did in the past under ther previous owners. The hotel is overpriced for what limited services that the guests receives - therefore, I would not stay at the Jared Coffin House in the future, nor would I recommend the JCH to anyone. Look elsewhere ... there are many better values & freindlier places to stay on Nantucket Island.
