Compassionate & Comprehensive Care for Patients with Kidney Disease

I have been seeing Dr. Joe since I had my first child four years ago, Now we are expecting our third and are so relieved to have someone who really cares about the welfare of my children. We thought we liked him a lot when he was with a group practice in Austin, and now we cant imagine ever going back there since he opened his new practice. He always spends enough time with me, answering all my questions. He never cut the visit short or made me feel foolish for making a silly decision. He has always appeared professional and greets my children with a smile. My DD pretends to be Dr. Joe with her doctor kit and I smile knowing she also likes to go see him. In four years he has helped us through some tough times. I would and have recommended him to people at myh church, my neighbors and my sister who brings my neice to him as well. We are grateful to have a great doctor so close to home.

I have nothing but good things to say about Dr. Cohen. He has by far been the best doctor to my 1 year old son. Believe me, I've seen others in Austin & Cedar Park (including a "celebrity" type & azoo like practice (WAY TOO busy!) in Austin & a major jerk/quack in Cedar Park. My husband & I are very meticulous when it comes to finding the right doctor and I can tell you that Dr. Cohen has been the best doctor, in that he is extremely conscientious when it comes to his patients (i.e., monitors his ill patients very closely...wich is not very common compared to doctors who belong to busy practices). I have always been impressed on how great he interacts with my son & the way he always makes him laugh, which his other doctors never were able to do well. In addition, my husband & I feel that Dr. Cohen is intelligent & knows the latest in research findings, etc. He has provided excellent advice to me re: my son's reflux, asthma, & eczema issues, which no other doctor ever provided in the past! My son has done very well while under the care of Dr. Cohen. He truly is a great doctor.

We were new to the area and I took my son there to get established and because he needed a shot. He did ask us a lot of the questions that were answered on the forms already. He didn't appear to be dressed or had the personal appearance of a doctor - wearing very casual clothing, an earring and several knuckle rings. I might be conservative, but I do like the doctor to look like a doctor, not a college kid. At this time, my son had some as yet undiagnosed issues related to his behavior. You know as a mother, I just had this really bad gut feeling when he walked into the room. After the visit, I noticed that my insurance didn't pay for the entire visit and I learned that it was because this "doctor" took it upon himself to diagnose my son, during one 15 minute visit mind you, with ADHD and oppositional defiant disorder. This is an outrage because he isn't the proper doctor to diagnose either of those problems and he didn't do ANY testing to arrive at that diagnosis. This is now permanently on my son's medical record and the medical information bureau. There is no reversing it. I too got a letter stating that we were no longer patients, which suited me just fine. When I got home after the visit, I learned that he received a medical degree from the "American University of the Carribbean", which I think is for people can't get into the decent medical schools. He should not be allowed to practice medicine.

My experience with Dr. Cohen has been anything but pleasant. I started taking my children (5 & 2) to Dr. Cohen after deciding my former pediatric group was treating us like a number. After explaining this to Dr. Cohen he assured me that was exactly the reason why he left a group practice and I would not be treated like that in his office. Needless to say, I was not even treated that well. Dr. Cohen's bedside manor and level of professionalism DO NOT EXIST. Neither my children nor myself were greeted by Dr. Cohen. There was no reassurance to my children that he was there to help them feel better. He asked me questions that should have been answered the the patient file. On two occasions the brought other doctors, I guess, into the exam room without introducing them or telling me why they were there. That alone is completely unacceptable. I inquired about a flu test for my son and was told that it did not matter what the result of the test was, he would not treat my child. And after explaing to my five year old that Dr. Cohen was not going to help him feel better I received a termination notice from his office. I can only assume that Dr. Cohen has no children and has no idea the feeling and emotion that both a parent and child experience in a doctor's office.
