The last two times I have dontated blood my cholesterol was high. I made an appt. with Dr. Mason as a new patient to have it checked. I checked with the person who booked the appt. to be sure that my insurance was accepted. When I arrived for my appt. the receptionists were busy answering phone calls, which was fine. However, one rolled her eyes the entire time she was one the phone with patients and the other commented loudly that she "just might quit today." Not a very good first impression and it didn't get any better. As she handed me an info sheet to complete the receptionist informed me that she couldn't run my nsurance that day because her business office was not open that day and she would have to put a hold on my bank account for $700 before I could see the doctor. If this was a problem I could reschedule. Although I could not begin to imagine how a consult and cholesterol test could cost that much, even with new patient fees, I told her I had $550 available and that I had already been told that my insurance was accepted, plus I was using my sick time to take off work for the appt. (FYI...I am a teacher so my insurance plan is through the state and is a pretty common one.) I also asked why she couldn't call the 1-800 number on the back of my insurance card to confirm coverage but she couldn't come up with a response other than "it has to go through OUR business office." Needless to say I didn't reschedule with this doctor.

I was a pt of Dr. Masons when I informed her that I was extremely depressed and had thoughts of taking my life due to many illnesses and losses. Instead of seeing me (only the nurse) she called the authorities and was NOT supportive of my needs....
