Bad Medicine

We are in the process of finding a new pediatrics office, the office was just so convenient (we hear this a lot from other parents). We have refused to see Dr. Larkin for the past few years because we just felt that everything was brushed off as 'overly worried parent syndrome'. One of the times we were told we were just being worried parents resulted in a weekend dash to INOVA where my child was admitted and did not leave for 5 days. We then saw Dr. Russell - your child cannot leave his office without a prescription for something. Our child was diagnosed with asthma by him because of a nighttime cough. At a visit to Children's Medical Center in DC where Russel had prescribed an exam, we consulted with a specialist who agreed that the child did not have asthma and there was nor reason for the test (OTC antacids were the fix for what turned out to be minor acid reflux). It was when we got home with a pile of medicines for Asthma that I became concerned with the pure amount of medication. We were told not to worry about it by Kidz Docs 'she can stay on the medication until college'. After consulting with another specialist about my concern regarding the pure volume of medication, something he said hit home 'tests may show they are relatively safe but the truth is that nothing good ever came from long term steroid use'. We moved away from Russel to a Nurse Practitioner who we were actually happy with. From that point on smaller annoyances have built up and we are at wits end.
