User Reviews of Alameda School of Music

Cheep and affordable, yet great teachers!

In elementary school, I took piano lessons from a musician that came to my school weekly and charged too much. He skipped a lot of vital theory basics. In the fifth grade it came to a point where I had learned the rest of the major and minor scales, learned to transpose, and the basics of composing on my own. When my parents found out that I was making more progress working on my own than with the teacher, they pulled me out and put me in the Alameda School of Music. I was immediately taught about what transposition was and that was what i had been doing, as well as many other fundemetals that had been skimmed on. Not to mention the fun and excepting enviroment brought into the school by having so many different instruments and styles being taught in the same place, which later lead me to venture into pop and rock piano. A year later, when my teacher went off to college to get her master's in composition, the school's network of music teachers made it easy to find a new piano teacher that had openings at times near the old time of the lessons. This fall, I am entering the world of high school, as well as switching to a new teacher for jazz, and I would never start into either of these two things without the school of music these days. I can get support from and make friends with the other high school students, and find the perfect jazz teacher that will know just how to teach a beginner in jazz who's advanced with pop, rock, and classical.

Yelp.com Review - by Tracy A.

5.0 of 5 stars. I took 3 group guitar classes from Barry Solomon. I took his beginning guitar and his advanced guitar twice. He was not able to spark the inner folk guitar artist in me but I don't blame him for...
